You will need to read your policy wordings to see what type of perils are insured against for your contents, if you have a Named Perils type policy, or what perils are excluded, if you have an All Risk type policy. I can guarantee you this type of damage would never be covered under a Named Perils type policy. If you have an All Risks type of policy and this type of damage is not excluded, then it would be covered, but now does the amount of damage exceed your deductible (by a significant amount, or else it is not worth it). IF it does, then by all means, however you will lose any claims free discount you have, and if you have had other claims in the past you may be dropped by your insurer on renewal.

Yes,but it should be specifically mentioned in the policy schedule with insured value.
You should have proof of ownership(insurable interest) of your secondhand laptop.Claim adjuster always wants to make it sure that it was broken due to accidental means of pure nature.O.K.,try it.Good luck.

There is a good chance it would cover it but you have a few things to consider. Electronics like laptops are personal property so they are covered everywhere but depending on whether it was shorted out or dropped or plain abused it may or may not be covered. People who start their house on fire by accident with their grill are still covered by their homeowners policy because intent is the key if coverage is clearly in place. One, how much is your deductible because you will be charged it? Two, what is the value of the laptop? Is your policy actual cash value or replacement cost value? Evaluate your loss and determine if it is an amount that is claimable under your policy. Then, the adjuster would decide if the manner in which it was broken was a covered peril (or loss) under the named perils of the policy.

Depends on how it was broken. Yes, they're just as much your personal contents (assuming it's not a business computer) as everything else in the house.

But CONTENTS are covered under a "named perils" basis on the standard homeowners policy - so the REAL question is, what caused the loss? If it's a covered CAUSE of loss, that's covered property. "Oops I dropped it" or "oops the baby poured a glass of orange juice onto the keyboard shorting out the whole system (my oldest did that, sigh)" is NOT covered.

no this is his problem to pay for. why should your insurance company pay? even if they did there is probably a deductible and your insurance would go up. his tree, his damage. ask him for his insurance carriers policy number and telephone number.

Call your insurance ASAP.

If the neighbor's tree fell due to their own negligence (the tree was dead and rotted out but they failed to remove it, etc) then it is their responsibility. If the tree fell because of a storm or other act of God than your insurance should pay.

Either way, this is for the insurance companies to work out. So call your agent, explain the situation, and let them work it out.

I'd turn it into my insurance company and let them figure it out. That's what they get paid for.
